In the challenge of making our deck more comfortable and inviting, we unexpectedly made progress on it this weekend.
ONGOING PROJECT…
We had a new deck built early this year. It was intended to make our new hot tub more convenient to use and more aesthetically pleasing.
Since then, I have had the ongoing project of decorating the new deck on a budget.
It has been a FUN process, but it is a process that is taking a while. I want the most bang for my buck, so I have been searching the internet for clearance sales on patio furniture for six months now. I found beautiful sets, but I just can’t afford to pay in the thousands of dollars for outdoor furniture and it looked like that’s what it was going to take to get what I wanted in a pretty color. WHY are the pretty colors more expensive???
Saturday, after our trip to the local Farmer’s Market, Mr. Menace needed to go to Lowe’s to get some wood for a project that will be shared at a later date. I fully intended to spend that time wandering around the garden center, just drinking up the fall ideas.
Before going out to the garden center though, I decided to look through their seasonal items. They had some really cute Halloween stuff on display, but I was more interested in the summer clearance.
We would have to come back with a trailer to get it, but there was ONE outdoor sofa sitting there reduced $200, dropping it down to a very reasonable price. It was beige, of course.
Mr. Menace marked it SOLD and we headed to the checkout.
When we got home, we hooked up the trailer and went straight back to pick it up.
Hard to believe all that stuff was packed into that one box and I am very glad that I don’t have to try to fit it back in.
Putting together the first one was a little time consuming, but once I figured it out, they went together quickly.
It is very beige.
But it looks fantastic with the beige TASSELED umbrella.
I moved the obelisk down to the end of the deck from where I had placed it in my last update post.
I see it’s time to replace a couple of the solar lights in my solar chandelier.
Once the deck gets stained, an upcoming project, I can see some spa blue blankets and tasseled pillows, and a pretty blue rug. It will come together. I can see it in my head.
DECK DIVISIONS:
The new deck has evolved into three separate sections.
The sectional sofa makes a great lounging, reading, relaxing area.
A “sun worshiping” and reading area.
And the cooking and dining area.
Now on to the next step!
I am laughing at your “very beige” comment! That is so me too! So many people love beige but I think it is the most boring color ever. But I admit it looks really nice with your umbrella and I know you can add some blue to make it look much more interesting. What a great price!
Yeah. I so didn’t want beige. But I do love a bargain! So beige it is. And yes, I will be adding color, somehow, somewhere! 🙂
The good news is that beige doesn’t limit your accent colors! 😀
That is so true Ricki! I like that thought. 🙂
Hi! Just popping in to link up with the other granny bloggers ;o) Love this post – we’ve been updating our whole house so this is great inspiration to keep going. Thanks for the party! Nina @ Vintage Mama’s Cottage
PS I love beige!
Hi Nina. Thanks for visiting. Grannies working together! 🙂
Ok, that deck looks so great! What luck to find the furniture and in a color that will be easy to change accessories to match the seasons!
I agree Pam. And I am kindof excited to find and/or make some pillows and things to add color. Thanks for visiting with me! 🙂
Nikki – beige is going to become your BEST FRIEND! Those cushions will hide ALL THE DIRT! Plus it will be so easy to decorate with colourful throws and pillows which you can swap around seasonally. The deck is looking good! xx
Hi Kate! Boy am I glad to hear that! haha Actually, after I got that beige umbrella, I sorta figured that it would look the best with a beige sofa. I just really wanted color…. Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂
Beige is a great base to start with! It will let all those accents stand out all the more once you get to the next step (always my favourite part)! The deck looks so inviting and spacious, too. A real inviting space.
Yes I think you are quite right and I am excited to start adding the fun stuff. Thanks for the compliment. 🙂
It’s always nice to find a great bargain! And with beige you can change out colored pillows any time you want! Thanks for sharing at The Blogger’s Pit Stop! Roseann from http://www.thisautoimmunelife.com
Yes, the bargain was WAY more important than the color. As Tim Gunn always says, I will “make it work!” Thanks Roseann! 🙂
It looks great, I love the colours that you chose and how spacious the deck looks! Amazing job!
Thanks Krystin. I think that once I get a rug, the colors will really look good and the deck will look finished. 🙂
Your deck looks like such a relaxing space – I love it! The furniture is FAB, and c’mon with the hot tub!
It is truly turning out even better than I expected Patricia! It is the first thing I have ever hired out to be built so I was scared that it wouldn’t be what I wanted when we got through. But I LOVE it! Thanks for checking it out! 🙂
