So. You have ALL the stuff: dresses, hats, necklaces, shoes.
But they are all stuffed in the toy box or a basket with the dolls and trucks and cars, and the kids never play with them.
What you NEED to do is create a kids dress up area!

Creating a specific area and using the dress up items themselves as decor, is a low cost way to decorate and it will ignite the children’s interest in playing dress up!
Reuse a small bookshelf to house your the main items. Hang necklaces from command hooks so they don’t tangle.
Use baskets or pretty boxes to hold hair bows and a brush. Hang hats on the wall or just place on a shelf.
Find a jewelry box at the thrift store to hold rings and earrings and bracelets. I reused a wooden box that I was given when I graduated from high school. I guess it is now an antique. *wink*
If you are brave, you can give them a little bit of old makeup and a mirror and little girls will be in hog heaven. Be sure to corral the makeup in pretty baskets.
Getting these toys out of the toy box and into their own special place makes them more appealing to kids, much easier to find, and they will be played with more often. And BONUS, they make cute decor!
Do you make certain play areas for the children in your life?

So cute! I love the painting. I like the necklace hanging idea. I need a better way to deal with my own necklaces. I wish I had a closet door to hang them on the inside of, but I just have a curtain across my little closet. I’m trying to remember - how do you organize your own necklaces?

I am planning on making me something to hang them from, but at the moment, they hang on a corner shelf in the bathroom. It’s a knick-knack shelf of Aunt Modie’s and it stands in the corner. It has “knobs” that stick up on each shelf so I hang them on those knobs. They aren’t really knobs. They are the braces for each shelf. I’m not explaining this very well. I’ll send you a picture. 🙂

What a stunning idea Nikki, so much better than having everything all stashed away in some dusty old attic.
