So is it possible to have a cottage style decor in a home that isn’t cottage style? YES it is!
My Colonial Ranch has a beautiful exterior, but the interior has absolutely no little character. The cottage shabby chic appeals to me so I decided to go with cottage decor.
Here are some simple ways to incorporate cottage style to ANY style home:
Faux Fireplace:
Now that all the main living area walls are painted to reflect my style, it is time to decorate. I prefer a more cottagey look as you could probably tell from my faux fireplace installation.
Kitchen Cabinet Decor:
Bar Stools:
Spending the night at Granny and Granddaddy’s are some of my best childhood memories. These stools held a lot of grandkids over the years and YES! those stools are exactly what I need!
I cheated.
I didn’t actually make these.
Mama and my sister came from NC to visit one Thanksgiving and Ginger made these for me after we all agreed on what fabric to use. I actually found the blue and brown fabric in my stash and it matched the original cushions perfectly. She made giant ruffles, attached them to the existing cushions, and they turned out perfect!

I admired all the work you had done and Hunter looked at the pictures over my shoulder pointing out lighting, and the vent in your "fireplace" and he wondered if Dennis had added what looks like a traffic light at your fireplace. Hunter and I look forward to more posts! And we love spray paint too.

Thanks! And tell Hunter that Dennis didn't add the light, but it is one he bought. It is a fancy beautiful old light from the original Tutwiler Hotel in Birmingham, which was built in 1914 and torn down in 1974.

The ruffle certainly did give the stools a cottage look. Love how they turned out! I had those same stools at my previous home. Our youngest son bought it and he uses them now. They have3 boys, so no ruffles. 🙂 Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Cute cushions. Isn’t it funny how so many of us have a stash of fabric? I don’t sew much anymore but if I wanted to I could and I have the patterns to go with the fabric.
gwingal says
I have to make myself stop buying fabric Victoria! I never sew any more. 🙂
