In case you missed my Swan Addendum, be sure to CLICK HERE and find out what’s going on. Because y’all. Brass Swans were evidently cool in the seventies!
I’ve been doing some online research, desperately trying to find something interesting to do with our new brass swans. I have Googled, Ebayed, Pinterested and found nothing. Most similar brass birds that I have found are much smaller. These that we have are large and won’t sit just any ole where.
But I’m not giving up on the world wide web yet. I have decided to take them around the house and yard and pose them in different places and take some pictures. Maybe these pictures will strike a cord with one of you and YOU, my friends from all corners of the globe, will find me the perfect idea!
So, here we go!
ON THE FRONT PORCH:
I do like how bright they are on the porch. They really almost sparkle and bring quite a bright spot to the area.
IN THE ENTRY:
While they fit nicely on the entry stairs, they don’t add the bright spark of light here like they did on the porch. But I do think they look nice with the wood box, flowers, and hat that sit at the top of the landing.
IN THE HALL:
I just recently moved this bench to the hall from the Ice Castle Room. This bench belonged to my Grandmother and I’ve been searching for several years now, for its proper place in the house. I think I might have found it now. So I placed the swans here and they obviously needed a vignette. It’s a narrow hall though, which limits items that can be used here. I don’t want Mr. Menace running into my decor in the middle of the night!
So I hung the cross from an existing nail just to get ideas and I really liked the way the raffia and the burlap look with the swans. But it’s not perfect and I will continue to look for something fitting to hang on the wall.
It rained all weekend and so I didn’t get any to take any photos outside but for now, I’m liking last display the best. What do you think?

I think they look great in all of the places you displayed them. I like them best outside on the porch. Maybe if you leave them outside for a while a bit of patina action will take place or you could faux patina them. Shared on Fb, G+, Pn, and Tw ♥

Yes, Mr. Menace even suggested we might should force the patina. I think I want to keep them shiny for a while first. Thanks for voting and sharing! 🙂

I like the 2nd picture best - the one where they are both on the bench on the front porch. Adds an unexpected bright spot. 🙂

I agree that they do provide a bight spot on the church pew. Thanks for voting! 🙂

The swans are lovely, Nikki! I definitely like them best when they’re both sitting on the same level. And I think they look better with a more rustic surrounding. My favourite photo is that second to last one, in the hall. Somehow, this is when they seem most natural and lifelike to me.
gwingal says
Thanks Kyla. I plan to leave them in the hall as you see them in those last photos, for a while. Then they will probably go to the front porch for a while. 🙂
Ann says
They look great in each spot. Maybe they should just travel!
gwingal says
Ah! The traveling swans! Swans do migrate, you know… Great thought, Ann. 🙂

Lots of people saying brass is making a come-back. 🙂 I like them the best outdoors (the first pics?)… Also, thinking they would stand-out in a room that is full of white (maybe in the corner of a bright bathroom?). Something to bring out the ‘glam’ of the brass. 🙂
gwingal says
I think the reason that do “stand out” on those first pictures might be the white background, so I think you are probably right Julie. None of the indoor pictures are against a white background and I think that is the difference. Good point! Thanks. 🙂

These are so cute and so versatile!

Sure is hard to find the right spot to display them. hahaha Thanks Alix. 🙂

These swans have been such fun. Where does the hubs like them best? I think I like them on the porch, with one on the bench and the other on the ground. But I also like the cross/raffia close to them, too.
gwingal says
He hasn’t said anything about where I’ve tried them. When he brought them home, he did suggest maybe outside and also to possibly hurry the patina effect along… (I think he secretly wants to put some mystery mixture on them and see what happens…) Thanks Leslie.

I like your brass swans! But if you find you don’t like their coloring after awhile, then maybe consider painting them. I have a white wooden swan I picked up when our first home’s model homes were sold and the builder sold all the furnishings. Got the big swan, a sweet white wicker heart-backed chair that went into my young daughter’s room and a white wicker stool. The swan ended up on top of our 8′ tall dark oak bookcases eventually but he was out especially at Christmas when he looked lovely on the coffee table! Fun post! Enjoy them!!!

Hi Barbara. I hadn’t thought about painting them. Thats a good alternative! Thanks for you input. 🙂

They almost immediately made me think of the Make Way for Ducklings statues in Boston. They dress those up with bonnets and such. Maybe you should look at some pictures of those?
gwingal says
Great idea! I will do that. 🙂

Nikki these really make a statement, they are so big!!
gwingal says
They really are big, Mary, and that makes it hard to place them. But it’s kinda fun trying them in a bunch of different places. 🙂

Those swans look great everywhere that you put them-what a great investment! Thanks for sharing at Party in Your PJs!

Thanks so much! So maybe they will become the traveling swans. 🙂
