Each year as Christmas approaches, I find it harder and harder to actually do any decorating of my home. I want it done, but I just don’t have the energy to get it all out, decorate, and then put it all away. But I have found a secret to decorating in minimal time.
A simple front porch decor that will span the seasons is my first trick. Using a simple blanket and pillow on the front porch pews is the foundation.
Getting the tree up and decorated of course is the goal. Although sometimes I don’t even use traditional balls. Sometimes it just lights and sometimes I add flower or feather picks.
When I decorated the porch for winter, I reused the pillows that I removed from the pews outside, on the sofa, replacing my summery floral pillows on the sofa, with those solid blue ones.
I found the snowball throw blanket at Burke’s outlet and knew I needed it for winter!
Hanging stockings is so traditional, this is always on my list even if my “fireplace” mantel is fake.
A ball garland adds much needed sparkle.

Here are a few things on my wish list of holiday decor items:
Cow in Santa Hat pillow, Truck full of toys pillow, Barn & Windmill, Cow Ornaments, Christmas Milk Can.
Using non-traditional colors is becoming a trend and peacock feathers are one of my favorite unique touches. The colors fit right in with my everyday decor. Adding wreaths and garlands on top of furniture like our warehouse scales adds another touch of festivity.
The honeybee wreath that I made with bee ornaments stays out year ’round. You can see more about it in the post Christmas Wreath that works all year. It makes the whole room smell delicious.
Adding a few more favorite items around around your room will create a Christmas feel that you love.
You don’t have to do it all. I find that if I just add a few favorite things, that eventually the mood will strike again and I’ll be energized and motivated and decking the halls full force once again.
Are you an early get ‘er done decorator? or a better late than never??
Pin for Later!

I LOVE the deer! It is so cute! And the blue flowers in the photo under it are very pretty. Everything looks pretty and festive without being overwhelming. We still need to get a tree – I like it yet don’t like how much room it always takes up.
I have had this deer for YEARS! It is so sweet. Some years he is on the front porch and some years under the tree. And yes, I went to a skinny tree because I just don’t have the room for a regular size tree! I have been known to take OUT a piece of furniture to fit in the tree. I love that you get a real tree though. I keep threatening to do just that and one year I will. 🙂
So pretty with all that deep blue and teal; my favorite colors!
Thank you Mother of 3! I love blue too. 🙂
Love all the blue – it looks so festive!
Thanks Sarah. I am partial to blue. And yellow. hmmmm… wonder if you can decorate for Christmas with yellow? 🙂
this is all gorgeous! we do a lot of blue in my house too for xmas!
Hi Cait. Thank you so much. I’d love to see your house with all the blue! 🙂
Wow, I love the mantel and the scales. You’ve made everything pop out and look so festive. Thanks for sharing on RTT.
Thank you Cindy. I am not the most professional decorator, thats for sure. But I do enjoy it. Thanks for visiting. 🙂
Everything is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Christine. 🙂
I like your bench on the front porch. It’s a nice rustic look. I wish I had the gene for DIY but alas it passed me :/
Thanks Tabitha. I am SURE once you get started you will surprise yourself at what you can come up with. And the best thing to help with that is PINTEREST! So many ideas to help nudge the imagination. Thanks for visiting. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous!! The fireplace mantel look alike… did you make that???
Thanks Kori! The mantel itself is an antique one. I only made the flanking fake “built-ins.” I am so glad you like it. Thanks for visiting. 🙂
Beautiful decorations. The DIY gene missed me as well, but I like to think enjoying others’ creations is a talent too! 🙂
I’m not totally sure I believe that Christie! But the best way to remedy that is to get on Pinterest and find pictures that you like and COPY them in your own home! I do that a lot. 🙂
I absolutely fall in the better late than never category. 🙂 I love your decorations! That dark blue is really pretty and I always love a white tree…it’s so retro.
Thanks Erin! I bought this white tree last year and I am loving it! The year before that, I spray painted my green tree with white paint. Not fully white, just a light dusting. haha 🙂
So pretty! Love that color scheme – it’s unique but beautiful!
Hi Erica! Thanks so much! Sometimes I go traditional red & green, but lately I’ve been bored with that. 🙂
Beautiful Christmas decorations! I love the honeybees and the gingerbread boy & girl toys especially. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Cathy! I had so much fun creating that honey bee wreath when I found those ornaments. And my gingerbread kids are my very favorite! They are getting rather old. 🙂
Your Christmas decorations are lovely! I love all the blue.
Thank you Helen. I have seen Lots of unusual colors used this year and I love them all. Of course I love the tradition red and green too! 🙂
The snowball blanket!! I love it! And in the spring it can be peonies 🙂
I usually have the christmas stuff up early, but I have found if it doesn’t get put up in the first couple hours of “hard” decorating, it usually gets put back in the box until next year 🙂
I hadn’t thought about the throw for spring! haha Yep. Me too on the first few hours of Christmas decorating. And by the next year I am usually ready to put it up again because I missed having it. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by!! Lovely decorations!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks Debbie. 🙂
Obsessed with your decor! Blue is my favorite color so I went the same route!
Thanks Kait! I will drop over to your site and look for pictures of your decor! Thanks for visiting. 🙂
I love that peacock stocking SO MUCH! Thank you for sharing with Party in Your PJs.
Thank you Lynda. And thanks for visiting! 🙂
That stocking is fabulous and love seeing your Christmas decorations
Thanks Amber. I love seeing everyone’s different styles in decorating for Christmas. 🙂
I love everything about this post Nikki, but what really drew me in was the photo with the scales on the rustic bookcase. That is absolutely stunning. Happy New Year my friend.
Hi Mary! I hope you are having a great January 1st! Thanks for visiting and enjoying my sparse Christmas decorating. We seem to be collecting scales… 🙂
I love all of your decor, but the bench and pillow in the first picture is my favorite. I wish you a Happy and Blessed New Year, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your posts in 2018 on Sunday’s Best.
Thanks Rhonda. I love my church pews! I do hope you are starting your new year off in a great way! I will for sure be at Sunday’s Best again. 🙂
